How to Find and Remove "Not Found" Links from Google Search Console (Google Webmaster Tools)

Sometimes you play with your site a little bit, and that results in hundred's of Broken links or 404 Status or "Not Found" links.

Here I will show how to find those links and remove from Google's Index from Google Search  Console, aka Google Webmaster Tools

A word of caution though, in case you do not know, if you have "Not Found" URLs, first, you should check if there are really important content which is missing now. If so, consider creating the content again on that URL. Secondly, if that is not the case, consider redirecting to relevant, or at least slightly pages, especially if those "Not Found" URLs had some content or some Backlinks and External links pointed to them.

If you absolutely know that you want to get rid of those links, here is how to do that.

Using Google Search Console or Webmasters Tools

1. In Webmasters tools, old interface, click on
"Crawl", then "Crawl Errors" on the menu to the right. There you will find the list of all the "Not Found" URLs

2. Copy all the not found URLs in a spreadsheet or on a text file

3. Go to "Google Index" > "Remove URLs" on the right Menu.

4. Click on "Temporarily Hide" > Enter the URL in the respective field > "Continue" > From the drop-down select "Clear URL from cache and temporarily remove from Search" > Click "Submit Request"

This way, Remove all the "Not Found" URLs one by one.

What it actually does is - it deletes the cache from Google index and keeps the URLs from being indexed for 3 months. Even if the crawler bots find that the URL is live, will not index for 3 months.

After 3 months if crawler finds the URL live it will index the URL again, if not, then Google index will forget the URL forever.

Basically, I forgot that I have already created this tutorial, and created again now. I typed so much that I just do not want to delete this post, so publishing anyway.
